BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Today Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell reaffirmed her commitment to the protection of access to gender-affirming care, and she’s backed by 12 other attorneys general.

The statement comes after the recent Executive Order from the Trump Administration banning gender-affirming care and treatments for children and teens under the age of 19.

Within the statement issued from the AG Campbell, it says “The Trump Administration’s recent Executive Order is wrong on the science and the law. Despite what the Trump Administration has suggested, there is no connection between “female genital mutilation” and gender-affirming care, and no federal law makes gender-affirming care unlawful. President Trump cannot change that by Executive Order.”

The Trump Administration released the order in January, which states “Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions. This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation’s history, and it must end.”

Other State Attorneys General joining AG Campbell include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
