BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two Houston Astros managers were fired Monday, shortly after the MLB suspended them for a year in a deepening cheating scandal that involved using technology to steal signs.
Now, Red Sox Manager Alex Cora, implicated as the ringleader in the Houston scandal, is on the hot seat.
Cora, who was the Astros' Bench Coach at the time, was mentioned eleven times in MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred's report on the Astros' sign stealing, with Manfred writing that Cora was "an active participant in the scheme" who, "through his active participation, implicitly condoned the players’ conduct."
On top of all of this, Cora is also implicated in allegations that the Red Sox used video equipment to steal opponents' signs during their franchise-best 108-win regular season in 2018.
Commissioner Manfred said he'll wait to make recommendations about punishment for Cora until the MLB's Department of Investigations finishes its probe into the Red Sox.
