BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The trial of accused serial rapist Alvin Campbell Jr. got underway in Suffolk Superior Court Monday.

Campbell, 45, is the older brother of Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell.

He is charged with raping or sexually assaulting nine women between 2017 and 2019.

Prosecutors say Campbell posed as an Uber driver and targeted intoxicated women leaving Boston nightlife spots. Campbell allegedly lured the women into his vehicle, assaulted them, and in several cases secretly recorded the acts on his cellphone.

One of Campbell's alleged victims came forward in 2019 and told law enforcement that Campbell picked her up while she was leaving a holiday party near TD Garden. She woke up the next day at his apartment in Rhode Island after he had sexually assaulted her, prosecutors allege.

Campbell faces 53 charges related to the alleged attacks. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts and insists the encounters were consensual.

The trial is expected to last several weeks.
