AMESBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With autumn just over the horizon, one local apple-picking spot has been ranked the best pick-your-own spot in the country.

Cider Hill Farms in Amesbury topped the list of pick-your-own apple orchards in the U.S. on Yelp, beating out farms in New York, California, North Carolina, and Virginia.

The ratings were complied from reviews over the last 20 years.

The farm has been run by the Cook family for two generations. Glenn Cook's parents bought the property in 1978, and it has since expanded to a sprawling 145-acre farm that generates about 90% of its own electricity.
