BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —The New England Aquarium is keeping its doors open for some visitors after-hours Saturday.
The museum is hosting a special event called “Aquarium After Dark,” an adults-only evening to experience what the aquarium is like at night.
“We’ll be dimming the lights, mimicking the typical nighttime atmosphere that our animals are accustomed to,” Chelsea San Martino, associate director of marketing and promotion, told WBZ NewsRadio.
She added that the night-time atmosphere allows guests to have a glimpse at animals that are more active at night, such as ‘Cirri’ the nurse shark and ‘Thomas’ the green moray eel.
Visitors will also have the opportunity “to engage with our aquarium educators and learn more about our animals and the conservation work that we do.”
Food and drinks are available to purchase, including some themed cocktails.
While the Saturday’s event is sold out, San Martino said the demand has inspired the aquarium to hosts more opportunities like this in future.
“So, we’ll take that into consideration for our future aquarium events,” she said.
