BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Banner 18 is finally here!

The Celtics took down the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals last night to claim a record 18th NBA Championship. WBZ's Carl Stevens (@CarlWBZ) penned a poem to commemorate their achievement.

They're the world champs, the toast of the town!
Holiday, White, Tatum and Brown,
Horford and Hauser, Pritchard, KP,
What a joy to the heart! What a sight to see!
With hard work and talent they carved out their fate
And grabbed the baton from yesterday's greats:
Russell and Cousey, McHale and Bird,
Garnett and Pierce, let that flag be unfurled
And raised to the rafters where it can be seen:
A tattoo of glory: banner number eighteen!
Like a racehorse they led from start to finish
With strength undeterred and a will undiminished
And the best part of all, so often unseen,
Is they won it together, complete, as a team.
They moved as a unit, they switched, they attacked,
They consistently had each other's back.
They beat every team, from coast to coast,
And it was never about who scored the most.
Losing, for this team, was the same as sinning,
So they worked together to keep on winning.
When you've got sweat and skill, wisdom and pluck
You don't need a leprechaun to bring you luck.
So raise a glass to this wonderful team
And celebrate a basketball world that is bathed in green!
