SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One underdog, or undercat in this case, has caught the attention of Somerville residents in this year’s Bike Path Mayor campaign showdown.

Midnight, a jet-black cat that wears underpants, has been in foster care for two years at Black Cat Rescue, a foster-based cat rescue. Before the organization took her in, she lost her tail in a dog attack and has worn a diaper ever since, Jennifer Stott, the executive director of the Black Cat Rescue, said.

“She's gone on to embrace life with so much courage and resilience and spirit,” Stott said.

Black cats are only half as likely to get adopted as cats of other colors, and that is why this organization aims to actively help them find permanent homes, according to Black Cat Rescue’s website.

Midnight is giving the other feline candidates like Berry, the bike path’s sitting mayor, a run for their money.

Stott said she hopes this exposure along the Somerville Community Path can be enough to help Midnight win over people’s hearts to finally be adopted soon.

“What better way to do that than to win the title of Mayor of the Somerville bike path?” she said.
