BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With National Puppy Day on Thursday, the Animal Rescue League of Boston flagged the fact that three of its locations have an abundance of young pups up for adoption.

The ARL's Boston, Dedham, and Brewster sites have more than a dozen puppies and plenty of adult dogs that are looking for forever homes.

Rescue officials say all animals coming into the ARL receive veterinary exams, necessary vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, and are microchipped.

"Twice a month, ARL welcomes in puppies and dogs from other regions of the country through the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Animal Relocation Program, which transports dogs from overcrowded shelters to regions like New England where the demand for adoptable animals is high," a spokesperson for the ARL said.

Officials are also reminding interested adopters that puppies are a lot of work, offering dog training for all levels and a free behavior helpline. The ARL also practices a conversation-based adoption process called "Adoption Forward," which evaluates the settings to decide which pup would be the best fit for a given household— whether that be a puppy or adult dog.
