BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Attorney, author, and educator Anita Hill will speak at Roxbury Community College's 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee Gala on Saturday night.

Hill will also be presented with the inaugural Roxbury Community College Drum Major for Social Justice Award.

The award "pays homage to the countless scholars, abolitionists, activists, organizers, and advocates who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to building a more just world, like Hill," the college said in a press release.

Hill grabbed the national spotlight in 1991 for her testimony in the Senate confirmation hearings for then U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. Hill accused Thomas of sexual harassing her while he was her supervisor at the Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Today, Hill is a Professor of Law, Public Policy, and Women's Studies at Brandeis University and a member of the university's Heller School for Social Policy and Management. She is also Chair of the Hollywood Commission to Eliminate Sexual Harassment and Advance Equality in the Workplace.

"As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of RCC, we reflect on the invaluable role the College serves within our community," said Roxbury Community College Interim President Jackie Jenkins-Scott. "Anita Hill embodies what RCC aims to bring to its community: advocacy for equity, social justice, and creating good for the public as a whole. We are grateful to Anita for her work and the wisdom she will share with our Gala attendees."

"I am honored to be recognized with the inaugural Drum Major for Justice Award and to celebrate RCC’s 50th anniversary," said Hill. "RCC is about recognizing the potential in all learners and equipping the community with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute great things to the world. The College’s work is critical to the community and very close to my heart; education is necessary social justice work."

The gala takes place at the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport. In addition to Hill's attendance, the event will feature Tashanea Whitlow as emcee, an unveiling of an art installation by Napoleon Jones-Henderson and Stephen Hamilton, a hip hop performance by Floor Lords, and more.
