BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Dozens of flight delays and cancellations kicked off Valentine's Day at Boston Logan Airport, following the first day of another government shutdown impacting the Department of Homeland Security.
It’s been over three months since a 43-day Government-wide shutdown ended back in November. After Congress failed to pass a bill to fund operations for Homeland Security amid ICE operation disputes, the department temporarily shut down.
The DHS shutdown is now affecting TSA agents across the country as they work without pay. While travelers are flustered, they do have sympathy for airport security.
“I think that we need to do a better job to ensure that the people who protect us are paid,” said a traveler at Logan. “We’re in a situation where you can lose security and people who are working without any pay.”

Other travelers expressed frustration with the Trump administration for their handling of the situation.
“I don’t know how to even start. I hate listening to the news, and I’m sorry for these folks, it’s not right,” said another traveler at Logan. “It has to stop. The Trump Administration is making a mess of things, it’s really tough these days.”
