BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boating season is back in Boston.

The Jamaica Pond Boat House is officially open for the season, which means boaters can once again take to the waters in Jamaica Plain. The Boat House offers different types of boat rentals through Courageous Sailing, including sailboats, rowboats, single and double kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.

"I think it the best time of the year to finally be back on the water and have the opportunity to sail," Boat House site director Jeremy Shea told WBZ's James Rojas.

Boating on Jamaica Pond is a popular pastime for many residents. Heather Finn said that she loves seeing the boat house reopen because it reminds her of the day her wife proposed.

"[She] cut half a sandwich, half a watermelon, and rowed us halfway around the pond to the island with the tree and proposed in the boat with our dog," she said. "It was lovely and sentimental."

Finn also has some advice for any first-time rowers looking to rent a rowboat.

"I wasn't very good I kept going in circles," she said. "So [make sure you have] good upper body strength and have a good partner to keep going for you if you get tired."

Boat reservations can be made online at the Courageous Sailing website. Anyone interested in renting a sailboat needs to pass an "on-the-water sailing test" before they can reserve a sailboat.
