NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Ernie Boch Jr. says it's time for April "Fuels" Day. The local businessman and philanthropist said he'll be giving out up to 7,000 gallons of free gas on Friday, April 1.

It's no April Fool's joke. The gas will be given out first-come, first-served at Rojo's Car Wash on Route 1 in Norwood, beginning at 7:00 AM.

Norwood Police told WBZ NewsRadio that they're aware of the event and the traffic disruptions it will likely cause — they're sending a full traffic detail to control the crowd.

The average price of a gallon of regular gas in Massachusetts spiked to a record of about $4.36 a gallon earlier in March as sanctions ramped up on Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine. It has inched down slowly to about $4.23 a gallon on average.
