ARLINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Some people see it as junk, but these two high school juniors in Arlington saw it as an opportunity.
And now, John Snider and George Baras have formed a junk hauling business in their spare time.
Called "Junk Brothas," the pair is now offering people junk and clutter removal services.
Both were working in the landscaping business when they saw an opportunity for junk removal because the market was wide open.
"It's a lot easier to find customers by doing this because when you look up junk removal on the internet, there's not many places around," Snider said.
Through their landscaping jobs, they worked with customers who needed junk and debris removed but knew traditional trash companies wouldn't take the material.
So that was an opportunity.
They also knew they each had the right kind of vehicle. "We realized that we both have pick-up trucks," Snider said.
From there, he said the next step was offering a service to customers that they knew the customers needed. "We had the experience with landscaping, that kind of stuff. But we realized we could be more efficient doing this."
Finding time in their busy school schedules to work on their new business is challenging, but the Junk Brothas have needed to be flexible, filling in the hours before class, after school, and in between lacrosse practice.
Even though they are new to the business, they already have around a dozen jobs under their belts.
Asked about his generation's willingness to get their hands dirty, he said that any perceived laziness is "...Kinda BS... But some kids do try to take shortcuts, so we're trying to flip the script and change that reputation."
