UPDATE: Boston Police have taken the suspect into custody
BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – Part of Boston’s South End was shut down after Emerson College received a report of an armed individual on their sports field.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Emerson College received a report of an armed individual on Rotch Field. The field, shared with the City of Boston, is where Emerson plays soccer, softball and lacrosse.
The college said Boston police and Emerson College police both responded to the area, which is located between Albany Street and Randolph Street close to I-93.
Albany Street was closed between Travelers and Randolph Streets. Police also told people to avoid the area between East Berkeley and Malden Street.
On the scene, police were said to be negotiating with the individual. The intent of the suspect remains unknown.
The college alerted its community members and was advising them to avoid the area until advised otherwise. They told WBZ NewsRadio that all members of the Emerson community have been accounted for.
Police activity is anticipated in the area for an extended amount of time.
Boston Police confirmed the Boston Emergency Services is on the scene along with negotiators and a Swat team.
