WATERTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Arsenal Park has officially reopened in Watertown.
The $10.35 million dollar project includes a new playground, spray pad, skate park, basketball and tennis court and more. While most of Massachusetts remains under a heat advisory, some parents suggest spending a day splashing around as the perfect solution for the high temperatures.
"90-degree day and a waterpark, where else would you be," remarked one parent.
The renovations happened in two phases. Phase A, which included a pavilion and tree covered area, was completed in 2024. Residents say they have been counting down the days anticipating the completion of Phase B.
"I feel like we've been waiting for almost a year now for this playground to open, so we're really excited to be here, and this is our first time," exclaimed another parent.
The overall amount for the project came in $4 million over the initial budget. To cover the additional costs, improvements to Victory Field and Casey Park have been delayed. The decision seems to be paying off.
"I was here yesterday and I'm here again today and I love it. It's really really nice," one local said.
The official grand opening celebration is Tuesday, July 15 at 4 p.m.
