BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Entry level jobs are becoming harder to come by for recent college graduates and Gen Z as a whole.
Data collected by Stanford University shows that in industries exposed to artificial intelligence, entry level jobs for Gen Z adults have shrunk by 13% in the past three years. Many economists have said this is just the beginning of AI interfering with the workforce, especially for those just entering.
WBZ NewsRadio reporter Jim MacKay asked Boston residents if they agree that Gen Z is having a rougher time getting a job. Some agreed that Gen Z is struggling due to less opportunities. Others, like Brian from Back Bay, said they think Gen Z has more options than what they may be looking for.
"No, go to a trade, there's trades out there you can go [do] and make some really good money," Brian said.
Some said the use of technology now makes it easier than it has been in the past to find jobs to apply for. "We have Google, we have computers, we have everything," one said.
"I don't know, I feel that they have a workaround, I haven't heard anyone crying about the market," said another.
Others said that strides made in gender equality in the workplace over the last few decades has improved the job market. One said, "there are a lot more opportunities for women than our generation."
