ASHLAND (WBZ NewsRadio) — Crews in Ashland knocked down a fire in a backyard shed Monday morning—then found a body in the rubble.

Firefighters responded to the Oak Street property around 1 a.m., and quickly put out the fire that had destroyed a wooden utility shed. They found what was believed to be the body of an adult inside.

The person found dead in the shed was not a resident of the home, but has not been identified. Nobody who lives in the home was injured.

"There were no immediate signs of foul play, and there have been past reports of homeless individuals taking shelter in the shed," Ashland Police said in a release.

The state medical examiner's office took the body from the scene and is working to identify the person.

The cause of the fire wasn't known.
