ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Plans for the Fourth of July in Attleboro are going to be a little different this year. Instead of a traditional fireworks display, the city is doing a laser light show.

Attleboro Mayor Cathleen DeSimone told WBZ NewsRadio that a laser show is significantly less expensive than a fireworks show. It could also have other benefits, such as not scaring dogs and having less of an environmental impact.

But, DeSimone said she reserves the right to switch back to fireworks next year. She said while she does like fireworks, she is excited to give the laser show a try.

While there was mixed reaction online, the Attleboro residents that WBZ NewsRadio spoke to on the street did not seem totally on board.

“They should be able to get a good show for the Fourth of July. It's only once a year," one resident said.

“I’m so entertained when I’m watching fireworks and I like to bring friends, because we’re all looking up and it’s amazing,” another resident said.
