NORTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A preschool program in Norton, Mass. has children spending most of their day outdoors.

Young kids attending the Attleboro Norton YMCA’s Nature’s Playground outdoor preschool program are outside for about 80 percent of their day. Even in the winter months, they spend most of their day out in nature.

One of their main goals is to keep the children unplugged from TV’s and iPads. WBZ’s Kim Tunnicliffe spoke with Executive Director Jen Maltese who said they have everything they need to keep electronics away for the school day.

“The goal is to be outside about 80 percent of the time, so they do come in for nap time. We have two outdoor classrooms, we have 80 acres, we’ve got hiking trails, we have a little waterfront, we have some beehives,” said Maltese.

They will be hosting an open house on Nov. 18 for new families interested in the program.
