DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Karen Read's defense attorney Alan Jackson said Tuesday that he will be joining her legal team in the civil wrongful death lawsuit against her that was filed by former Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe's family.

CBS News Boston's Kristina Rex confirmed this on her X account on Tuesday:

In a statement to WBZ NewsRadio, Jackson said, "I’m proud to stand alongside Elizabeth Little as we join Karen Read‘s civil defense team in her relentless pursuit of justice. Karen’s courage in confronting abuse of power and demanding the truth is unwavering—and so are we. This fight isn’t over. Not until every lie is exposed and every wrong is made right."

Jackson defended Read in both the trial and retrial of her criminal case, in which she was accused of striking O'Keefe with her SUV and leaving him to die in the snow on Jan. 29, 2022.

After an initial mistrial in 2024, Read was found not guilty during the retrial of second-degree murder, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. She was only found guilty of operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
