BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Officials with the Massachusetts State Police, F.B.I. and other organizations shared their safety plans Wednesday ahead of the annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on July 4.
"Troopers come from every corner of the state to participate in this event with one singular goal: to ensure the safety and security of this event," M.S.P. Colonel Geoffrey Noble said during a press conference Wednesday.
The event opens at 12 p.m. Friday at the DCR Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. The Pops' concert will start at 7 p.m. and the fireworks display will go off around 9:40 p.m.
Although there had been no credible safety threats against the event as of Wednesday afternoon, authorities said they will deploy air, marine and K-9 units to keep the crowds safe. Noble urged attendees to do their part to keep the event safe by using public transportation to avoid road closures and by adhering to the list of prohibited items, which include:
Coolers on wheels
Backpacks
Alcoholic beverages
Firearms, weapons and sharp objects
Fireworks
Glass containers
Grills, propane tanks and open flames
Drones
Liquids must be stored in sealed plastic containers. Bicycles are not allowed within the Oval — the grassy area in front of the Hatch Shell — but may be used throughout the rest of the venue.
