Rep. Ayanna Pressley Boycotting Trump's State Of The Union Address

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts District 7 Rep. Ayanna Pressley announced her decision to boycott President Donald Trump's State of the Union address in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.

"On the eve of Senate Republicans covering up transgressions and spreading misinformation, I cannot in good conscience attend a sham State of the Union when I have seen firsthand the damage Donald J. Trump’s rhetoric and policies have inflicted on those I love and those I represent," the Congresswoman wrote in her statement.

Pressley said she made the decision because Trump "incessantly stokes fear in people of color, women, healthcare providers, LGTBQ+ communities, low-income families, and many more," and "does not embody the principles, the responsibility, the grace, nor the integrity that is required of the President of the United States."

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Pressley's fellow "squad" member, has also announced she will not be attending the address.

The address will begin at 9 p.m.
