BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — This year, the Boston Athletic Association has a new sustainability partner, Sneakers4Good. This is an organization that collects gently used running shoes at this year’s marathon and gives them to people in need in 24 developing countries around the world.

“Specifically, 4,000 families throughout those countries, we work in places like Cambodia, Pakistan, Honduras, Guatemala, and places like Haiti that have been devastated by natural disasters,” said Kim, who works for the company.

Kim added that places like Haiti rely on the United States and Americans for used clothing and shoes.

“You cannot go to a mall and buy a new pair of shoes, there is not an Adidas store that you can walk into and get a new pair of shoes,” she added.

For every pair of shoes donated, the BAA gets one dollar.
