Gov. Baker, Big Papi Help Raise Money For Cancer Research

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gov. Charlie Baker and former Red Sox star David Ortiz were among many who attended an event Wednesday to help raise money for cancer research at Boston Children’s Hospital.

At the event, people shaved their heads to help raise money. Baker was among those who did.

“All we really do is put up with the ego shattering reality of what we look like without any hair. And in some respects, given the horror and the agony that so many people who go through cancer go through, it’s a tiny little price to pay for a really good cause,” Baker said.

Also among those who attended was 9-year-old brain cancer survivor Colin Spinney. He shaved off his hair again to raise money for the hospital that saved him.

“A lot of people can get cancer and it’s a hard thing to cure it,” Spinney said.

The event raised $6.5 million.
