BARNSTABLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Following a large beach brawl at Hathaway's Pond on Sunday, the Town of Barnstable along with their police department said in a statement to WBZ NewsRadio that the pond will be closed to the public for the next two weekends as a result.

Hathaway's Pond was set to be closed Friday, June 10 to Monday, June 13, and again starting on Friday night June 17 to Tuesday, June 21.

Barnstable Police Chief Matthew Sonnabend told WBZ's Tim Dunn following the fight that he did not want to see public access to the pond be cut off for those not involved in the brawl.

"We were able to disperse the group— there's been a few videos that have come to our attention through social media sites that we are looking at to try and identify people involved. It seems to be a trend these days where people post things on social media, and other people want to copy what they're doing," Sonnabend said.

Officials did not disclose what other measures are being taken related to the incident.
