ABINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The spookiest house on the block is back to scare up the neighborhood.

Barrett's Haunted Mansion in Abington has returned for the 2023 Halloween season. More than 100 live actors are ready to pop out of dark places and give visitors a fright... if they are actually brave enough to watch.

"They close their eyes or they’re buried in someone else’s shirt," owner Mary Barrett Costello told WBZ NewsRadio Friday. "We did have a customer [who urinated on herself.] She sat down in the corner and did not move."

This is Barrett Costello's 32nd year running the mansion, which includes an additional "Condemned" attraction and special "Devil's Night" and "Darkness Unleashed" events for ages 18 and over.

"I’ve always been a horror fan. I just love the imagination of it," Barrett Costello said. "A lot of moving things, shocking things, some great jump scares. If you would like to be afraid and you like to not know what’s coming around the corner, this is the place to go."

While there are plenty of scares to be had inside the mansion, there is also entertainment for those waiting in line outside.

"Characters that actually roam, we have some shows up on a stage," described Barrett Costello. "We like to keep people involved and active."
