BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With the Red Sox returning to Fenway Park later this week, nearby restaurants and bars are preparing to serve customers in the middle of Lansdowne Street.
The Lyons Group owns several establishments on the street outside the ballpark, including Bleacher Bar, Loretta's Last Call, and Landsdowne Pub.
According to Ryan Jones of the Lyons Group, each game day this season, the road will be closed to vehicle traffic and turned into patio space.
“Our bars and restaurants very heavily depend on Fenway events, Red Sox games, tourists, and a lot of that’s not going on this year,” said Jones. “So you’ve got to get creative. You’ve got to think outside the box.”
Jones said social distancing guidelines will be in place. Tables will all be set six feet apart, and there will be staff who are "strictly responsible for making sure people are paying attention to those guidelines.”
While Jones noted that there are some restrictions on what can be done "from an entertainment standpoint," he said the company is trying to figure out a solution with the City that would allow TV screens outside for fans to watch the games as they happen across the street.
The Red Sox are scheduled to play two exhibition games on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays, and the team's home opener is 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Baltimore Orioles.
