BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Wedding season has commenced and while some are deciding to yes to the dress, others are deciding if they want to say yes to the invitation.
"If I was invited, I guess I would go," said one Bostonian.
Data from the popular wedding company The Knot suggests that around 80 percent of invited guests accept their invitations. Although the reasons behind the "regretful declines" from the 20 percent vary from budget constraints to just not wanting to attend, some seemed hesitant to share the truth behind the decline with the couple to avoid hurting their feelings.
"I would just ask AI, give me a list of excuses. I'd ask AI and pick one of them," remarked another Bostonian.
According to The Wedding Report, Massachusetts hosts more than 35,000 weddings annually with the average wedding tabulating around $45,626 and the average guest count landing between 165 and 175. Wedding season tends to start in the summer months and peak in the fall with October, September and June listed as the most popular months to say, "I do." As some struggle with crafting appropriate responses to the invitations, other have no problem letting the wedding party down without providing an explanation.
"I'd just say no, will not attend and send it back," says a local resident.
