BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A beloved bakery in the Readville part of the Hyde Park neighborhood has closed its doors, and is debating whether to keep them that way for good.

Owner Jim Mariano tells WBZ's Chris Fama that his decision to close the family bakery he's worked in for 45 years wasn't one he made lightly.

"It's painful— it's been my life. I'm going to spend some time with relatives, if I miss this that much I'll be back," Mariano said.

BC Bakery sold products like freshly baked Italian and French bread, rolls, pastries, and cold cuts to customers for decades.

When asked if Mariano foresees the BC Bakery opening back up in the future, he gave an undetermined answer.

"I just have to see how it goes, I hate disappointing anybody, but I do need some time for myself. We're going to be closed for a while— I've got a lot of calls, some of the customers that come in want me to continue," Mariano said.

Mariano went on to say that he believes he's going to miss the people the most because he's become familiar with his customers.

"It's a tough thing to walk away from," Mariano said.
