MELROSE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Someone in Melrose said his name three times.

"Beetlejuice 2," the long-awaited sequel to director Tim Burton's 1988 film, resumed production in Melrose this week. Several blocks of the neighborhood by the intersection of West Emerson and Charles streets were taken over for filming and made to look like Halloween.

Filming in Melrose was just getting underway earlier in the year when the SAG-AFTRA strike shut down production for 118 days.

"We heard they were coming back the day after the actor's strike. They just started up again," said resident James Coleman.

Coleman and other neighbors watched Burton and star Jenna Ortega prepare to shoot scenes for the upcoming film.

"The whole production has been very patient with us wanting to look and very accommodating and just very pleasant to have around," one woman told WBZ NewsRadio.

In addition to Ortega, the film also stars returning actors Michael Keaton (reprising his titular role), Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara. Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, and Willem Dafoe also have roles.

"Beetlejuice 2" is set to hit theaters on Sept. 6, 2024.
