BEVERLY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of people flocked to Jacob's Corner in Beverly on Thursday to try to catch a glimpse of George Clooney and Ben Affleck, who are currently filming for an upcoming movie.
The north shore bar and grill has been transformed into The Dickens to film The Tender Bar, a coming-of-age drama directed by Clooney and produced by Amazon Studios.
According to Vinny Orlando, the bar's owner, the filming has drawn in people from all walks of life and locations.
"Thursday was crazy -- there was like 500 people outside yelling Ben's name -- from college girls to 60-year-old men it was pretty wild," he said.
Orlando said movie scouts have considered his bar as a location in the past, but this is the first time A-list stars have made use of the opportunity.
"It's very rare you know, when you own a small business in a small community that George Clooney and Ben Affleck are sitting in your bar hanging out," he said.
Orlando said they may consider changing the bar's name in the future to highlight it as a location of the movie -- hoping that the notoriety will propel the bar into a bright future after a drop in business during the pandemic.
"Hopefully we can get a jump from where we were before you know?" he said. "And hopefully get back to that and maybe even better."
He said he gets a text every two seconds asking when George and Ben will be filming there.
The movie's crew currently has security stationed outside the bar 24/7 until filming is done -- ahead of another shoot date set for Thursday, March 18.
