BEVERLY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Residents who live near the grocery stores in Beverly's Ward 5 district know how busy it can get in the middle of the night.
"My constituents had been woken up at 3:00, 3:30, 4:00 in the morning because of delivery trucks," Ward 5 councilor Kathleen Feldman told WBZ NewsRadio.
Feldman found other parts of the city experiencing the same issue, and after exploring other options, she decided the solution was a new city ordinance banning deliveries between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The ordinance passed its first reading earlier this week. After consulting other councilors and the city solicitor, Feldman is confident the legislation can go into effect next month.
"I know the grocery stores are not happy with this legislation, but I’m here to serve my constituents, so I’m happy," Feldman said.
