BEVERLY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After a lengthy teachers strike, Beverly Public Schools announced on Wednesday that they will supplement lost school time with weekend and vacation day classes.
Students will have to attend Saturday classes once a month for 5 months, starting in January.
These weekend classes have caused some mixed feelings amongst the Beverly students.
Braden, a senior at Beverly High School, was optimistic about this decision.
“I’m a little bit glad that they chose Saturdays instead of waiting until the end of the year,” Braden said. “I’m a senior and they would push graduation back two weeks, I don’t want that, and I don’t think anyone wants to be in school till June 30th.”

Zay, a junior at the high school, was less cheery on the matter, as going in on Saturdays would take up time from other weekend obligations.
“Saturdays kinda suck as someone who works and tries to make some money while also getting an education,” Zay said. “I don’t know if there’s anything else we could’ve really done, it’s not the worst of our options.”
Students will also have to come in for class on December 23rd and 4 days of February break, days that are normally vacation days.
Braden wasn’t as positive on this point, but he felt it was for the greater good.
“It’s for the teachers,” Braden said. “It’s worth it because the teachers end up getting what they need and that’s going to better our school community for the future.”
