HAVERHILL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Haverhill ice cream shop has been receiving some attention for an unorthodox sundae inspired by a Chinese food appetizer staple.
“We’re the home of the Crab Rangoon Sundae,” Biggart’s owner Dan Roche said.
Roche explained how he likes to come up with out-of-the-box specials all the time, but this one has received the most reactions.
“I ran up to my wife and I was like ‘I want to make a Crab Rangoon Sundae’ and she looked at me like I had 10 heads,” Roche said.

He also said that the sundae consists of vanilla soft serve, whipped cream, duck sauce, and a fresh Crab Rangoon on top.
When talking to customers about their thoughts on the special, some were completely turned off by the concept, to the point of not trying it at all. Others, such as WBZ NewsRadio’s very own Shari Small, loved the salty sweet combination of flavors that comes from the mix of duck sauce with the more typical ice cream and whipped cream. According to Shari, taking a bite of the Crab Rangoon with the ice cream fully realizes this salty sweet concept.
This attention-grabbing sundae has made its way back to the Biggart’s menu for many years as a special.
