BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Adam Balsam set a world record on the streets of Boston's North End Friday morning. Just ask Adam Balsam.
"I’m kind of into doing something no one’s ever done before and then claiming that I’m now the record holder of it," Balsam told WBZ NewsRadio.
Balsam set off on his bicycle at 5:30 a.m., trying to set the fastest time biking down all the streets in the neighborhood. After taking a few wrong turns, Balsam finished his route on Tileston Street with a time of 48 minutes.
"I thought maybe 70 minutes, in the end I ended up with 48 minutes," Balsam said. "So I’m happy about that."
In order to get a world record certified by Guinness World Records, applicants must send in an application, submit evidence that they have set a new record or broken an existing one, and have that evidenced assessed by Guinness' records management team. Balsam decided to go a much simpler route.
"I certified it," Balsam laughed. "So it’s 48 minutes, is the world record."
As Balsam celebrated his historic ride with his children, he offered some advice for those looking to break his newly formed record.
"Maybe find a route with fewer U-turns," Balsam said.
