BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cookie & Cream could become the official state ice cream for the Bay State thanks to a bill starting to make its way through the state legislature. The proposal comes in honor of an idea that originated in Somerville to mix and blend different flavors together.

At the moment, Massachusetts does not have an official state ice cream flavor, but a bill filed and presented by State Representative John Rogers, D-Norwood, and Norfolk/Suffolk Senator Michael Rush is looking to change that. If approved, the Commonwealth's official ice cream would become cookies & cream, a potential that is getting mixed perceptions those WBZ's James Rojas spoke to in Medford.

"Cookies & cream is good, but I think I would go with coffee. It's appropriate for where we're at, so yeah," one resident said.

Others were inspired by the numerous potholes emerging on streets across the Commonwealth, just in time for the spring season. James came up with the idea of rocky road as the state ice cream, just to pay homage to that fact.

"That's a good one I like that, it's pretty witty," another resident said.
