PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Shoppers are out in full force looking for the best deals and steals this Black Friday.

Even though Black Friday has become tamer in recent years with more and more people choosing to shop online, many people were out at the Northshore Mall in Peabody, Mass. Peabody Police Chief Tom Griffin was on the scene with extra security to ensure no one got too carried away.

“This is an important morning for us. Obviously in the city when they’re opening up, we just want to make sure everything opens up smooth and there’s no problems with any of the crowds,” said Griffin.

One father was there to show his son the busiest shopping day of the year.

“He wanted to experience black Friday. This was his first time,” said the father.

“It wasn’t really what I expected. I thought there was going to be a bunch of people charging in,” said his son.

Some were not there to shop but wanted to enjoy the festivities.

“I actually hardly ever buy anything. We just come out for the fun of it,” said one woman.

“I really look forward to seeing the interactions between people, like you see people kind of running into each other that haven’t seen each other in a long time. It’s just a feel-good time,” said Area Director of Marketing for Simon’s Malls Lauren Dalis.
