WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Worcester Bravehearts are on fire. Or rather, their scoreboard was. The team said the board at College of the Holy Cross's Fitton Field went up in smoke on Sunday night.

Dave Peterson, the team's general manager, told WBZ NewsRadio that there's no word on an official cause yet. He said the only thing that changed about the scoreboard over the weekend was a temporary Bravehearts banner that was put up on the board on Friday, right where the fire started.

The blaze burned a large hole in the scoreboard, which is now out of commission. In the meantime, employees are holding up the score and outs on posters and circulating near the crowd.

The Worcester Bravehearts play in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League and rent the field from College of the Holy Cross.

No one was in the stadium at the time, and the team played an away game on Sunday afternoon in Connecticut. Peterson said the fire might have been reported by drivers from nearby I-290.

Fitton Field hosts the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Semifinals on June 13. Peterson is in talks with Holy Cross on Wednesday and Thursday on what to do next. The Bravehearts are at 3-2 on the season.
