Blessed Virgin Mary Statue Burned Outside Dorchester Church

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police are investigating an act of arson, after a statue of the Virgin Mary was set on fire outside a Catholic church in Dorchester.

BPD said officers responded to reports of a fire outside Saint Peter’s Parish Church on Bowdoin Street around 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Boston Fire Department's Fire Investigation Unit said an unknown suspect had set fire to plastic flowers, which were in the hands of the statue, causing the face and upper body of the statue to be burned.

Police are asking anyone with information of the arson incident to contact Detectives at (617) 343-4335.
