BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MassDOT snowplow naming contest is over, and a dozen classes from all across the state are crowned the winners. School students had the chance to submit names for 12 Department of Transportation plows. The state launched the contest shortly after Thanksgiving.
MassDOT Highways Administrator Jonathan Gulliver said the contest had received hundreds of submissions.
The winners are as follows:
- Flurry Fighter (Pittsfield, Crosby Elementary 4th Grade)
- Luke Snowalker (Westfield, Munger Hill School 3rd Grade)
- Plower Ranger (Fitchburg, Reingold Elementary 1st Grade)
- Sherlock Snowmes (Somerville, John F. Kennedy School 4th Grade)
- Snowdrop (Stoughton, Wilkins Elementary, Kindergarten)
- Arctic Beast (Canton, JFK Elementary, 2nd Grade)
- Sled Zeppelin (Shelburne Falls, Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School, 6th grade)
- Snow day No Way (Hadley, Hadley Elementary, 5th Grade)
- Blizzard Wizard (Boylston, Tahanto Middle-High School, 8th Grade)
- Snow Big Deal (Malden, TEC Connections Academy Online School, 5th Grade)
- Snow Time to Lose (Attleboro, Wamsutta Middle School, 7th Grade)
- Blizzard of Oz (Boston, James F. Condon School K-8, 5th Grade)
Every plow comes complete with a custom paint job. Each of the winning classes will get a $100 gift card for school supplies and a visit from the plow they named. The plows will be in service this winter.
