Bluebikes Will Be Free During Temporary Orange Line Closure Oct. 26-Nov. 1

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts will be providing Bluebikes unlock codes to help commuters affected by the temporary Orange Line closure from Saturday, October 26 - Friday, November 1.  

The bike unlocks will be available to non-members of Bluebikes and can be redeemed for both traditional pedal and e-bikes (per minute fees apply). The unlocks will only be available for use during the Orange Line closure.

Individuals can access the bikes and the five free unlocks by using the code MBTAORANGE26 in the rewards section of the Bluebikes app; these credits can be used across the system’s 13 municipalities: Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Newton, Revere, Salem, Somerville, and Watertown.  

Blue Cross is the title sponsor of Bluebikes, a system that offers public transportation by bike.  

According to a press release, the system is municipally owned by thirteen cities and towns in eastern Massachusetts, jointly managed by the cities of Boston, Cambridge, Everett, and Somerville and the Town of Brookline, and operated under contract by Lyft.
