BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced a $44 million investment to redesign a section of Blue Hill Avenue.

She said the goal is to better serve bus riders and create safer conditions for pedestrians.

The plan includes adding a bus lane right down the middle of the busy roadway.

But not everyone agrees with the plan.

Diana Bristol is from DLB Insurance Agency.

She said adding an extra bus lane makes a bad situation worse. "It's really going to cut back on where our customers can find parking," she said. "They'll go other places where it's more convenient than having to deal with buses in the middle of the street and nowhere to park."

And a resident who lives in the neighborhood said the plan may make buses run faster, but it will make traffic even more congested than it already is.

WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe (@KimWBZ) reports.
