BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is offering free Bluebike passes on Thursday for World Mental Health Day.

Blue Cross Blue Shield said that this initiative is one way that their company is working towards promoting mental health and wellness. They said that exercise, like biking, can reduce stress levels and boost mood through the release of endorphins.

WBZ NewsRadio spoke to Tom who rides Bluebikes every day, and he has said that he has noticed the benefits of doing so.

“Getting outside is always a better idea than sitting around looking at a screen, so this is the healthiest thing to do to escape and get away from that,” Tom said.

To access the bikes, individuals can redeem a free two-hour complimentary ride by entering the code BLUECROSSWMHD through the Bluebikes app across the system’s 13 municipalities: Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Newton, Revere, Salem and Watertown.
