Boat Named In Honor Of 100-Year-Old Veteran And Lynn Fire Retiree

LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Lynn Fire Department named and christened its newly acquired rescue boat in honor of the department’s oldest living retiree — 100-year-old Rocco Brienzo.

The boat is named the Rock B. Brienzo stood on the dock in Lynn, and christened it with a bottle of champagne.

“This is overwhelming,” Brienzo said. “I just can’t explain it. When something so beautiful happens, how can you say thank you? How can you say ‘I appreciate it?’ It’s just beyond words.”

Brienzo served Lynn Fire for 32 years. Before that he served in the Navy in World War II.

The christening was held in conjunction with the Lynn and Volunteer Yacht Club’s Blessing of the Fleet.
