GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The channel between the Gloucester Harbor and the Annisquam River has caused some issues for amateur boat drivers.

A Gloucester resident has been gaining attention on Instagram for his videography and commentary of boaters struggling to get through the Blynman Canal and under the Blynman Bridge.

"They've got these big expensive boats, people come up for the summer, and they don't know how to navigate them," a resident told WBZ NewsRadio.

Known as the "the cut bridge,” the 35-foot-wide canal is dangerous due to the unpredictable current that can cause standing waves under the bridge.

Residents go along the river to watch boaters attempt to make it through. Some of them told WBZ NewsRadio that even the most experienced boaters struggle to get through.

"The cut" is used to save residents time over the alternative route.
