ROCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Rochester Middle School closed Friday due to a bomb threat, New Hampshire school officials said.
Rochester School Superintendent Kyle Repucci said an email sent to school officials Friday morning stated that the middle school would be bombed. According to Repucci, at the time, the threat was not credible, but the school would close Friday out of an abundance of caution.
"Upon receiving the threat, public safety personnel were notified. Putting students’ and staff members’ safety first, the Rochester School District closed the middle school for the day," Repucci said in a statement.
New Hampshire State Police swept the building and did not find a bomb.
The closure comes one day after another violent threat forced all Portsmouth, New Hampshire schools to close. The suspect who sent the threatening message was later arrested in Maine.
"Safety is always the top priority at all New Hampshire schools, and the New Hampshire Department of Safety has remained vigilant in taking every school threat seriously," said Robert Buxton, Director of the Department of Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM). "These incidents continue to show us why it is important for schools to conduct trainings and exercises throughout the school year, in partnership with their local first responders."
Rochester police ask anyone who may have information about the threat to call 603-330-7127 or call the Rochester Crimeline anonymously at 603-335-6500.
