"Boo Boo" The South Shore Bear Appears In Marshfield, Prompting Warnings

MARSHFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A bear that has been spotted all over the South Shore has popped up yet again in Marshfield. Police said the bear, nicknamed "Boo Boo" after the character on the Yogi Bear Show, was last spotted Sunday in Marshfield around Traceys Path and Eames Way.

The 2-year-old male black bear is likely in the area to hunt for a mate.

Boo Boo's appearance has touched off warnings from Police to not get too close or bother the animal. The bear is on a constant hunt for food, so wildlife officials said to keep trashcans covered or inside, to bring in birdfeeders if possible, and bring pet food inside as well.

The black bear population has been gradually rebounding and pushing east past I-495 after nearly going extinct in the 1900's.
