BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As Labor Day weekend begins, Boston-area residents and visitors are mapping out the last events of the summer.

Deb Peters is a teacher from Canton who is planning one last trip to the beach for the season.

“I might go down to the Cape, one last Cape run this weekend,” Peters said.

Julie is also a teacher who has lined up her final festivities for the summer, along with some prep before school starts.

“Sunday, I have a cookout to go to, and on Monday I will do laundry to get ready for school on Tuesday,” Julie said.

Matt and his daughter Alexandra are visiting from New York for a weekend-long hockey tournament, which is their signal for the end of the summer.

“Playing in a couple rinks throughout the Boston area, so we’re playing five games over a span of three days,” Matt said. “That’ll finish out the summer and Labor Day weekend for us.”

While Alexandra is excited for the beginning of hockey season, she isn’t looking forward to going back to school.

Many others, however, don’t have Labor Day off, such as Soneila, who is working on Sunday and Monday. She’s sad for the summer to end but was still grateful for the weather we got.

“It was nice though’” Soneila said. “We got nice hot weather.”
