BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Workers at several Starbucks stores in and around Boston are going on strike on Thursday, as part of a national one-day strike. The Starbucks worker's union Starbucks Workers United said they called the national strike because of Starbucks Corporate's "refusal to negotiate in good faith" over a contract.

The strike is planned for the chain's Red Cup Day, which workers say can be one of its busiest days of the year. The strike is branded as a "Red Cup Rebellion."

Workers United is accusing the corporation of dragging its feet in negotiations and is calling for more staffing nationwide.

More than 100 locations of the coffee chain are participating nationwide, including six in Greater Boston. These are:

  • Boston University (874 Commonwealth Avenue): 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • 1304 Commonwealth Avenue in Allston: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • Coolidge Corner (277 Harvard Street) in Brookline: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • Continuum Apartments (217 Western Avenue) in Allston: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • Cleveland Circle (1948 Beacon Street) in Brighton: 9:00 AM to noon.
  • 301 West Broadway in Gardner: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Workers at some of these stores have had run-ins with corporate in recent months. The BU Starbucks went on strike for more than two months this summer and fall before coming off the picket lines in September.

WBZ NewsRadio has reached out to Starbucks Corporate for comment on the strike, but has not yet heard back.
