BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Athenaeum has a photography exhibit on display highlighting New England’s population of wildflowers and plants.

Wild Flowers of New England focuses on the extensive flora photo portfolio of Edwin Hale Lincoln from the early 20th century.

According to exhibit curator Lauren Graves, Lincoln spent an extensive amount of his photography career on the wild plant life of New England.

"Lincoln was a Berkshire-based photographer who dedicated over two decades of his photographic career to documenting wildflowers native to New England," Graves said. "His effort really was to document and preserve wildflowers for future generations."

This collection consists of a number of black and white photos covering the wide spectrum of the region’s native plant life, even touching upon flora that is now endangered. Graves explains that this is part of the appeal of this exhibit, displaying these plants that, despite their endangered status in the present, are forever locked in history with these photos.

"We wanted to really highlight in the exhibition the changing environment of New England and how important native plants are to our beautiful flora in the region," Graves said.

The exhibit will be on display throughout most of the summer, specifically from June 10 to September 5.

More information on the exhibit can be found here.
